Steven Zhou

Excellence in Media Award 

Steven Zhou is a journalist and writer based in Toronto who focuses on national security issues that affect the Western Muslim community. He worked as a journalist for CBC-Radio and The Ottawa Citizen after graduating with a Master of Journalism degree from Carleton University. He is now a frequent contributor to CBC News online and The Islamic Monthly magazine, a Maryland based publication that focuses on post-9/11 politics and culture. Steven’s writing has also appeared on Buzzfeed, Salon, Quartz, the Globe and Mail, the LA Review of Books, Al Jazeera English, Al Jazeera America, Now Magazine, the Huffington Post, and the Literary Review of Canada, among other outlets. Aside from his journalism, Steven has also consulted on human rights issues with organizations like Human Rights Watch, the Canadian Council of Muslim Women, the National Council of Canadian Muslims, and The Tessellate Institute.
