Shelina Merani

Shelina Merani is an artist, activist, comedian and founder of network Muslim Presence. One of her most fondest memories from growing up in Calgary, Alberta is crashing her dad’s car into the local 7’11. Good thing it was open 24 hours.

The thing she doesn’t get about Canadian society is why Starbucks can’t get our names right: Abdoo Rayban, Look man, As If.

She works at the Public Service Alliance of Canada, one of Canada’s largest unions, as a Communications advisor. In 2013, Merani won the Dennis McGann Stroke of Genius Award for a project she directed, in which she used photographs of food service inspectors accompanied by their personal stories to show their contributions to society.  For more information, visit: muslimpresence.com
